Dear Legacy Families,
The Arizona Department of Health Services released new guidance on Aug. 6 for Arizona schools that includes specific public health benchmarks to assist schools in their decision to safely reopen in-person.
Based on the guidance provided by ADHS, we have made the difficult decision to delay the start of in-person learning, previously scheduled for Aug. 17.
Our return to school date will be determined by the ADHS benchmark data, which will be updated every Thursday, and may vary by campus, based on its county location. Because the data is updated weekly, we are unable to share a new return date now. You can expect to receive communication from us by noon each Friday with an update about returning to school as soon as health guidelines permit.
When school returns, there will be a two-week grace period where students will not be required to wear a uniform to give families time to purchase uniforms for the school year. However, students will be expected to follow Legacy’s dress down day dress code.
We recognize that this decision has a significant impact on our Legacy families. We commend ADHS for its detailed guidance, and we remain committed to ensuring that the wellbeing of our students, staff and community is our top priority. Onsite Support Services In accordance with Executive Order 2020-51, beginning Aug. 17, all Legacy campuses will make a physical space available between 8 a.m. and 2:40 p.m. to students who need a safe place to go during the day. Per ADHS, onsite support services are intended for students who need a safe option for in-person support and who otherwise could not access resources for virtual learning.
Please consider the following when determining whether your child is in need of onsite support services during online learning:
If you are in need of onsite support services beginning Aug. 17, you will need to complete a form by 4 p.m. each Friday for the following week indicating the day(s) in which your child will need to be on campus. You will need to sign up each week. We will be providing a link to this form next week.
The results of this form allow us to establish guidelines and protocols to ensure the wellbeing of our Legacy students in need of onsite services, while maintaining health and safety on campus. If we are unable to maintain effective social distancing due to a high number of students on campus, the district has the authority to develop criteria for student eligibility for onsite support services.
During these extraordinarily challenging times, we are incredibly grateful for the leadership of our principals and the partnership with you, our Legacy families. As always, we will remain in close contact with you as we work to affirm the safety and success of our students.
If you have any questions, please contact us here.
Sincerely,
Nicole Kirkley Superintendent Legacy Traditional Schools |
