The International Photography Awards (IPA) has just announced the winners of its special themed photography competition, “MOVEMENT”. This year’s single-image contest looks at the concept of movement through a photographer’s lens in all aspects of life, showing change, development, movement and growth, in physical, political, social or artistic environments.

Thousands of photographers from around the world shared their unique and insightful perspectives and interpretations of this universal idea so succinctly articulated by the late Indian Philosopher, Jiddu Krishnamurti, when he said, “Life is a movement, a constant movement in relationship.” Entries were submitted in 5 categories: Street Photography, Nature, Fine Art, People, and Technology – Machine.

After reviewing and evaluating all the images, the Jury selected the following submissions for the top Prizes:

Grand Prize Winner: Wild Carrots, by Anne Mason-Hoerter

Category Winners:

Fine Art: “Wild Carrots”, by Anne Mason-Hoerter

Street Photography: “School Run, Rwanda”, by Benjamin Buckland
Nature: “Wallace Flying Frog”, by Shin Leong Teo
People: “Rice Growers”, by Jacopo Maria Della Valle
Technology—Machine: “The Urban Semiconductor”, by Youngkeun Sur

Hossein Farmani, Founder and President of IPA, commented, “The idea that everything moves, changes, and evolves, is such a great concept to explore through photography. It’s been inspiring to see how photographers of all levels of expertise have captured this concept in its many forms—universal, abstract, human, and machine. Even though it seems the whole planet has almost come to a standstill, through these images we see that life goes on and moves forward.  Congratulations to all the talented photographers who been a part of this great event.”

All the winners can be found on the Winners Gallery on the IPA website here. The first place winners in each category receive a cash prize and all winners are awarded an IPA Winner Certificate and Badge.  In order to support and honour the outstanding work of photographers around the world during the COVID-19 crisis, International Photo Awards is also matching ALL cash prizes that are awarded this year with an equal cash donation to the charity of the winning photographer’s choice in their community.
