Sycamore Community School District 427 families,
Please know that the District continues to actively monitor reports of COVID-19 and follow guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health, the DeKalb County Health Department, the CDC, and the DeKalb County Regional Office of Education. We have confirmed today, Thursday, March 12, 2020, with the DeKalb County Health Department, there are currently no identified cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in DeKalb County.
In consultation with the Dekalb County Health Department today, Thursday, March 12, 2020, and information provided by the CDC and the IDPH, we have decided to postpone or cancel district- and school-sponsored events that involve large gatherings with parents and community members outside of the regular school day, until further notice. This includes postponing this weekend’s Sycamore High School’s Orchesis production of “Dancing Inside Out”. More information regarding this event will be communicated at a later date.
The IDPH continues to recommend that schools hold classes. Please know this does not impact our regularly scheduled school day.
We realize this decision may bring more questions. This decision also follows the lead of state organizations, such as the IHSA, regarding state competitions involving students. Please continue to monitor the school district’s website and our email communications, as we work to provide more details about this as quickly and as responsibly as possible.
We thank you for your patience and understanding. All decisions are being made with the safety and well-being of our students in mind, and we are being as responsive as we can with the most reliable information we are receiving.
We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you updated.
Sincerely,
