E-LEARNING INSTRUCTIONS FOR FAMILIES AND STUDENTS
GRADING
The new guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education provides assessment recommendations on the grading of student work during remote learning. The District will begin assessing student work for our middle school and high school students. Assessment of a student’s work during remote learning can improve a student’s grade, but will not negatively impact their overall grade or their academic standing. The goal at the elementary level is to maintain continuity of education for our students.
ATTENDANCE
In order to maintain communication with our families and provide classroom connections, PK-5 classroom teachers have been asked to make weekly contact with families utilizing District approved communication methods. This will also enable us to reach out to families having difficulty accessing the learning activities.
In grades 6-12 if a student has not accessed a course for two consecutive days through their Google Classroom and/or Canvas account, the teacher or building administration will reach out to the student to check-in regarding their participation and/or accessibility to learning opportunities.
STUDENT SCHEDULE
Monday through Thursday
We will continue our current eLearning activities for students. For our elementary student’s these activities will be posted to our eLearning webpage. Middle School and High School students will receive their assignments directly from their individual teachers through their Google Classroom and/or Canvas accounts.
Friday
The Illinois State Board of Education has allowed and encourages remote learning planning and professional development days. No new learning activities will be pushed out to students on Fridays. The focus of this day for students will be time to work on projects, assignments, or optional activities that have been provided throughout the week.
The focus of this time for our staff will be to ensure continued alignment of instruction and continuity of instructional experiences for learners. Teachers will be engaged in meetings and professional development opportunities to meet remote learning goals for our students.
For students in all grade levels, there is a common set of expectations:
- We understand that every student and family will be in a different situation with differing levels of access to connectivity and schedules.
- We have asked our staff to make accommodations as needed to ensure that all students are able to successfully engage in learning.
- Elementary students can access the eLearning Plan via the eLearning webpage on the District’s website.
- Elementary students’ eLearning activities will be posted to the eLearning webpage by 9:00 AM each day. Additionally, this information will be emailed and sent via text to families. Please note, there will be options available for families who do not have access to a computer. If you are unable to access these activities, please email communications@syc427.org or call us at (815) 899-8100
If you are in need of assistance, please reply to this email or contact us at communications@syc427.org.
Please continue to regularly check your email and the District’s website for additional information.
