D124 BOARD BRIEFS

School Board Hires Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Educational Technology

Dr. Ashley Carlson has been selected as Evergreen Park School District 124’s Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Educational Technology.

Dr. Carlson currently works as both the Director of Curriculum and as the principal of an Early Childhood Center in Iroquois West Community Unit School District 10. Prior to moving into an administrative position in 2015, she spent 13 years working as a classroom teacher in Grant Park Community Unit School District 6.

"Dr. Carlson has worn many hats in her career, which allows her to speak to the curriculum review process as a bottom up approach, with the inclusion of teacher voice as a key element in the decision-making process,” incoming D124 Superintendent Dr. Jenna Woodland said. “"Her genuine care to work with all stakeholders will be an exceptional fit for this position.”

The D124 Board of Education officially hired Dr. Carlson at its Wednesday, May 19 meeting. She will begin her tenure in the district on July 1, 2021.

“We are happy to welcome Dr. Carlson to the Evergreen Park Community,” D124 Board President Colleen Klimczak said. “Dr. Carlson brings experience and enthusiasm to the students and stakeholders of District 124, and we’re excited for her to get started.”

Dr. Carlson recently earned her Doctorate of Education from Aurora University. Her dissertation focus was on teacher recruitment and retention, with a “Grow Your Own” philosophy of working with staff members to encourage higher level course work. She has a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction, and a School Improvement Leadership Endorsement, from Olivet Nazarene University, and received her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Governor’s State University.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve Evergreen Park School District 124,” Dr. Carlson said. “I look forward to connecting with students, staff, and families, building lasting relationships within the community. I am excited to work alongside exceptional educators ensuring students are receiving the enriching experiences and instruction that will be their foundation for future success.”
