March 18, 2021
Dear members of the Boston College Law School community,
I write to you as we approach the midpoint of the spring semester with some updates on the Law School.
It has been a month now since we learned that Dean Rougeau has been appointed as the 33rd President of the College of the Holy Cross. In his decade as Dean, Vince has been a remarkable leader and a valued colleague for so many of us across campus. His tenure has been marked by investment in the Law School’s faculty, an expansion of international partnerships, and a commitment to building a stronger sense of community for students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The University has benefited from his visionary service as inaugural Director of the Boston College Forum on Racial Justice in America. I join the Dean’s many friends and admirers in wishing him every success in his work at Holy Cross.
I am pleased to announce that Professor of Law and Dr. Thomas F. Carney Distinguished Scholar Diane Ring has accepted my invitation, and will serve as Interim Dean beginning in June 2021. Diane is an acclaimed specialist in taxation and corporate law and has been at Boston College since 2005. She has served two terms as Associate Dean, first for Academic Affairs from 2010 to 2012 and most recently since 2018 for Faculty. An A.B. and J.D. graduate of Harvard University, Diane’s expertise has led her to serve in consulting and leadership roles with the United Nations, the American Bar Association, and several other organizations. I am grateful for Diane’s commitment to the Law School, and I look forward to working closely with her over the coming academic year.
In coming months, I will update you on the search for the Law School’s next Dean. I expect to have engaged an executive search firm by summer and to announce the members of a search committee by early fall. There will be opportunities for community input during the fall semester. The committee’s work will span the next academic year and we will hope to be able to wrap up a successful search by spring 2022.
I appreciate your commitment to the Law School and look forward to conducting a successful search for our next Dean over the coming academic year. For now, I join you in thanking Dean Rougeau for his exemplary service and committing to support Professor Ring during her year as Interim Dean.
Sincerely, David Quigley Provost and Dean of Faculties |
