Notice to Members
April 14, 2020, 4:15 p.m.
Dear Colleagues,
Thank you for your leadership and support of the public health measures currently in place.
Here is our update for today:
- Chiropractic care remains limited to urgent, critical and emergency care. The public health order issued by the Chief Medical Officer of Health remains in effect. Please review the Notice to Members from March 30, 2020 for more details.
We understand that the lack of a clear timeline is challenging to manage. We want to applaud all of you for demonstrating excellent professionalism by upholding these orders in this time of uncertainty.
- Public safety considerations for chiropractors include physical and psychological safety. Chiropractors must be engaged in patient safety now and when we return to practice. Many of the measures that chiropractors have adopted, including physical distancing, infection prevention and control and proper screening provide physical safety to our patient and our employees.
An equally important measure that practitioners will need to account for is psychological safety. As practitioners, psychological safety occurs when we create a clinical space and experience that satisfies a patient’s belief that their safety and wellbeing is being sustained with the utmost care and attention. Employers promote employee psychological safety for their employees by creating and supporting a belief that staff is working in a safe environment and will not be punished or humiliated for raising ideas, questions, concerns or mistakes.
The ACAC is continuing to develop a return to work plan that will include measures to build physical and psychological safety for the public. COVID-19 has been stressful for everyone and the more chiropractors embrace both physical and psychological safety, the less patients will encounter barriers in seeking care from you once these public health orders have been lifted.
- Advocating for chiropractic through our actions. While the ACAC is in contact with stakeholders to advocate for chiropractic, we must consider how our actions as chiropractors is one of our most powerful advocates for the profession. COVID-19 is a serious public health threat and 100 per cent commitment from all chiropractors demonstrates the high level of professionalism that is required to build public trust and confidence at this time.
- Participate in the CFIB survey to make your voice heard to the government. As the government works to support businesses through the COVID-19 pandemic, it is essential they hear from you as a business owner on how they can assist during this difficult time. The Canadian Federation of Independent Business has prepared this survey to help inform government of necessary measures.
Thank you for continuing to support public safety by adhering to public health measures. We are here for you, and we will get through this pandemic together.
Warmest regards,
Dr. Todd Halowski
