Weekly COVID-19 update March 4, 2021 A message from the Registrar Dear Colleagues,
Since December, the weekly COVID-19 updates have focused on conveying direction and guidance on responding to the challenges and requirements presented by COVID-19. The messages are often a response to questions or a conveyance of essential information. The weekly communications often direct activities that we should not be doing, or things that we should be avoiding as a response to COVID-19. The expressed intent of this information has been, and will continue to be, the safe practice of chiropractic for you, your staff, and your patients.
While the weekly COVID-19 information is timely and important, it sometimes obscures the connection to why we became chiropractors in the first place. I am sure that for every chiropractor that practices in Alberta there is a unique story behind why they became a chiropractor, why they practice and value chiropractic.
What is your why? In speaking to chiropractors and reading many biographies on websites, at the core of your chiropractic journey was a chiropractic experience you or a loved one experienced.
What is your patient’s why? Chiropractic patients will seek care for their own reasons. Those reasons are often based on activity or experiences that are missing in their lives.
Despite COVID-19 and the impact that it has on how chiropractors’ practice; patients still need chiropractic care. Patients still need your care to overcome their health challenges. Your patients have higher stress, alternative work arrangements, less exercise, poorer health habits, higher consumption of alcohol, strained relationships, and diminished in-person connection in their lives.
Despite COVID-19 and the impact that is has on the public’s health; patients need quality chiropractic care. Patients need chiropractors who listen and have empathy for their struggles. Patients need chiropractors who can diagnose their health problems. Patients need chiropractors who can help their injuries and aches and pains from sitting and working with suboptimal ergonomics. Patients need chiropractors who know when to refer for health problems outside of the scope of chiropractors. Patients need chiropractors who can provide strong health information regarding exercise, nutrition, and sleep hygiene.
Thank you for your leadership in following the ACAC COVID-19 Pandemic Practice Directive.
Thank you for showing up in your practices and communities as leaders in health care.
Regards, Dr. Todd Halowski ACAC Registrar
