Weekly COVID-19 update June 10, 2021 A message from the Registrar Dear Colleagues,
With the province getting closer to the benchmark of 70 per cent of eligible Albertans receiving their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, there is anticipation that Stage 3 of the Alberta’s Open for Summer Plan will soon be announced. Stage 3 sees all restrictions lifted, including the ban on indoor social gatherings.
Please note, the lifting of public restrictions is separate from the Public Health measures put in place by the Chief Medical Officer of Health, including pandemic responses such as screening for symptoms, personal protective equipment, enhanced infection prevention, and control measures.
Until you hear otherwise from the ACAC, all regulated members and their staff are still required to follow the ACAC COVID-19 Pandemic Practice Directive and all Public Health Directives and measures.
Public health officials, led by the Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, are considering the degree and timing of reductions to Public Health Directives and measures as well. In a recent meeting with regulated health professions, Dr. Hinshaw indicated that a shift in public health measures is anticipated only after 70 per cent of the population has received their second dose of the vaccination. At that time, public health measures will look to transition from an acute response to COVID-19 to an ongoing public safety response.
Dr. Hinshaw asked all health profession regulators for input on what measures could be revised or removed, and what measures should endure as part of ongoing prevention practices in consideration of not only COVID-19 but also annual viral cycles, such as rhinovirus and influenza.
The ACAC sees this as an opportunity for our regulated members, as front-line, high-touch health professionals to provide thoughtful input that can help direct the organizational response to the Chief Medical Officer of Health’s request. As such, we are requesting your thoughts and input through this special, rapid ThoughtExchange consultation. The input period begins today and will close at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16. Sincerely, Dr. Todd Halowski ACAC Registrar This weekly, Thursday morning COVID-19 update provides non-urgent, yet important, information and answers questions posed by members as part of the ACAC’s ongoing efforts to keep members informed about public health responses to the pandemic.
