IACMI Seeking Input for DOE RFI in Support

of Medium- and Heavy-Duty Truck R&D

As affordable freight movement becomes increasingly essential for the nation’s economy in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy has announced a request for information on issues related to medium- and heavy-duty freight trucking.

Industry, academia, research laboratories, government agencies, and all other stakeholders are encouraged to provide feedback.

America’s trucks carry a vast majority of the nation’s freight on both a tonnage and value basis, and there are new opportunities in all commercial vehicle classes to increase efficiency as well as introduce alternative fuel sources like electricity, natural gas, biofuels, and hydrogen.

Through this RFI, DOE is soliciting input in five categories:

●      Freight Operational Efficiency and Systems

●      Internal Combustion Engine, Powertrain, Fuels and Emissions Control

●      Batteries, Electrification, and Charging of Medium- and Heavy-Duty Trucks

●      Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Trucks

●      Other Important Considerations

IACMI does intend to submit a response.

For IACMI members or stakeholders wishing to provide input, please send that information to IACMI Technology Impact Manager John Unser at junser@IACMI.org by Friday, October 30 at close of business.

A DOE-led public workshop is being planned for December 2020 to share the key findings of the RFI with outside stakeholders.
